Notts County v Belper Town (FA Cup)
James England (Euro Soccer Company) was at Meadow Lane on Saturday as the Nailers took on Notts County as they went toe-to-toe with the biggest club outside of the Football League.
It’s been an excellent FA Cup run for Belper Town this season, which earned them the glamour tie of the round. Belper took 1,700+ away fans to Meadow Lane and were in great voice throughout, an away following that wouldn’t look out of place in the Football League. Notts County dominated possession, but it was Belper who took the lead in the 10th minute with well worked attacking play leading to Danny Gordon’s thunderbolt from 25 yards, flying into the top corner. The Nailers’ support went into raptures and the roof came off of the Jimmy Sirrel Stand!
Notts County hit back by hitting the bar shortly after, but did manage to level before half time with a well taken goal from Enzio Boldewijn, cutting in from the right wing. Belper started the second half well and threatened, but began to tire as the half went on and then County managed to take the lead with another well taken finish from Kyle Wootton on 75 minutes.
Belper put the pressure on in the last 10 minutes, and were unlucky not to level in stoppage time with some sustained pressure leading to a goal mouth scramble, but the referee blew for a foul on a County player.
As the final whistle went, Belper earned a standing ovation on all sides of the ground, which was great to see the deserved appreciation from the opposition supporters for their efforts.

Here’s to hoping this will boost the attendances at the Raygar Stadium and interest in the club as a whole following their heroic FA Cup run.
